With a slew of new releases scheduled for the New Year, Foultone Records has decided to wrap up 2009 with the Foul Play sampler album. Consisting of brand-new material from Foultone’s own hungry up-and-coming roster, as well as efforts from some noteworthy veterans, this compilation serves as a preview of what can be expected from the label in 2010.
Entirely produced by Dj Kutdown (with the sole exception of OYE!’s “Chan Chan”), Foul Play features as-of-yet unreleased songs from such reputable hip-hop acts as Magnum K.I., Pip Skid and Unknown Mizery. However, while these names may be more familiar to some ears, Foultone is also excited to introduce some fresh new talent to a larger audience. Among the names if these artists are Rob Crooks, Echonawmiks, Ali the Son of Abdul, Influence, Nereo II, Illicit and OYE! (a live band featuring Def 3).
With 20 tracks that mix an innovative interpretation of hip-hop with an old school boom-bap influence, the Foul Play compilation is sure to gain heavy rotation on radio stations and personal stereos alike. It will also go a long way in proving that Foultone Records is a label that is ready to emerge as a force to watch out for in 2010 and beyond.
